VMU Students Fill the Podium at Political Science Olympics
On April 20, VMU students took the first three places at the final round of the Students’ Olympics of Political Science, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The winner Marius Šačikauskas, a student at the VMU Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy, will participate in the event held by the Community of Democracies in Vilnius on July 1 and accept the award of the best young Lithuanian leader in front of international audience and foreign politicians.
Vytautas Magnus University students Ignas Kalpokas and Tomas Statkevičius came in the second and third place, respectively. In the olympics, the participants’ theoretical knowledge was tested and debates were held.
The Students’ Olympics of Political Science is part of a competition prepared by the international organization Young Leaders Forum and the ministries of Education and Science and Foreign Affairs, seeking to name the best young Lithuanian leader among university students. The jury included Giedrius Česnakas, doctoral student of political science at VMU.
The winner Šačikauskas was invited by the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Audronius Ažubalis to take part in the meeting of ministers of foreign affairs from the country members of the Community of Democracies in Vilnius on July 1. The event will be attended by almost a thousand honourable guests from many countries around the world, who will witness the VMU student accepting award as the best Lithuanian young leader.
The Community of Democracies (CD) is an international intergovernmental organization uniting more than one hundred democratic countries around the world. Lithuania has been the President of the CD since 2009.
