VMU Students Donated Blood to Kaunas Newborns
On 18th of November, ESN VMU together with LSMUL Kaunas Clinics’ Blood Centre had a blood donation event “Residents of Kaunas, Be Generous!”. The collected blood will be donated to the newborns of Kaunas.
One blood donor can save up to three lives. Many students wanted to participate, some of them even had to stand in a queue and wait for their chance to donate. 47 people were willing to give their blood to the Kaunas newborns, and 41 of them were able to do so (the others had to be ruled out due to medical issues).
ESN VMU is very proud of Vytautas Magnus University’s students, especially the international ones: while only 6 exchange students gave blood, many more of them wanted to. Unfortunately, many of the students forgot to bring their ID cards. Despite this, the number of donors is still huge. Each donor gave 450 ml of blood, so in total, the amount collected in five hours on November 18th was a staggering 18 450 ml.
Every donor is a hero. ESN VMU and the great specialists from LSMUL Kaunas Clinics’ Blood Centre were very delighted to see so many generous people willing to help. Apart from the actual help, the slogan „Don’t Be Insensitive, Be a Hero – It‘s In Your Blood!” was used to raise awareness of the lack of blood for those in need. This already traditional ESN VMU blood donation event is a part of the SocialErasmus project.
