Vytautas Magnus University‘s chamber orchestra will travel to Cyprus to perform at the Euro-Mediterranean Youth Music Expo 2012 to be held between September 27th and October 1st.

Having debuted successfully at the international music festival in Pažaislis earlier this summer, VMU‘s chamber orchestra hoped to build on its success by auditioning for this year‘s Music Expo in Cyprus. After submitting an application along with an audition tape, the orchestra was one of the few ensembles chosen to participate. The Music Expo, organized annually since 2005, is a four-day forum that features all types of music—ranging from classical to pop, jazz to folk—from over 200 young (up to age 30) musicians and professionals from Europe and the Near East.

Participating in the forum are not only musicians and music scholars, but concert managers as well. The spectrum of activity during the forum is broad; scheduled activities include musical instrument lessons, educational seminars, discussions, and daily concerts. The Music Expo offers young musicians from Europe and the Near East the opportunity to share their talents, network with those working in similar areas of music, and meet with representatives from concert management and record companies.

VMU‘s chamber orchestra will play at the ceremonial opening concert, which is to take place at the Rialto theater in Limassol, one of the largest resort towns in Cyprus. Members of the orchestra plan to actively participate in all of the scheduled activities and perform selected pieces by Felix Mendelssohn, Edward Elgar, and Lithuanian composer Antanas Malcys.
