Swiss Professor to Read Course on Mediterranean Anthropology at VMU
Centre for Social Anthropology at VMU and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) are to organize an intensive 6-credit course of Mediterranean Region Anthropology, which will run from February 9 to 15 at VMU (K. Donelaičio Str. 52, Room 309).
The lectures of the course will be read by Prof. Christian Giordano (Institute of Social Anthropology, University of Fribourg), who is a prominent specialist of Mediterranean region studies. His research priorities include political and economic anthropology, ethnicity, nationalism and multiculturalism, citizenship, rural restructuring in South Eastern and Central Europe, political culture in the Mediterranean region, etc.
During the course, the Mediterranean region will be analyzed by employing an anthropological perspective. The significance of connections between the mafia and distrust will be studied as well, in addition to the religious, political, familial and gender aspects of the region.
Master degree and doctoral students of various fields of the humanities and social sciences are invited to register for the course of Mediterranean Region Anthropology. The course will be held in English.
