Summer School in Prague Invites VMU Students
Students at VMU are invited to join the summer school in Prague (Czech Republic), organized by the American Institute on Political & Economic Systems (AIPES) on July 5-27, 2011. AIPES is an academic program designed to explore political, economic and cultural issues of the world as it grows under democratic principles.
100 students from more than 25 countries in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the United States are expected to come to the summer school in Prague this year. Students will gather at the historical and cultural capital of the Czech Republic to study the basic foundations of a free society. They are encouraged to apply these concepts to the transitions already taking place in their home countries. It is also a chance for the students from a wide range of nationalities, religions and ethnicities to interact, learn and share their experiences in ways that can benefit their educational and professional development.
AIPES embodies diversity and culture as its cornerstone to educating future leaders. Over 1500 alumni have attended AIPES since its founding in 1993. Graduates of AIPES join the network of over 11000 TFAS (The Fund for American Studies) alumni who live in over 100 countries around the globe. The program is also an opportunity for both American students and their European/Central Asian counterparts to study abroad together, compare and contrast languages, customs and cultures, while forming potentially long-term friendships.
The cost of the program is 3500 euros per student, including costs of tuition, most meals, housing, reading materials and special events. The scholarship offered by AIPES is 3000 euros, therefore, the student would be responsible for the difference between the costs and the amount of the scholarship. The majority of students receive substantial scholarship awards, which are based on academic excellence, leadership ability and financial need.
The scholarship application is available within the online application found at the website of TFAS International. The deadline for applications is March 15, 2011 (may be prolonged for VMU students).
