Assoc. Prof. Saulius Gerulis, born in 1968, graduated with honors from the Kaunas Juozas Gruodis Conservatory in 1987 and acquired the qualification of a piano teacher. In 1992, he graduated from the prof. Karnavičius' piano class at the Lithuanian Academy of Music, where he also successfully defended doctoral dissertation in Studies of Arts in the field of humanities.
He served as senior assistant at the Dept. of Piano in the Kaunas Faculty of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in 1998–1999. In 2001–2005, Saulius Gerulis worked as an Assoc. Prof. at the VMU Faculty of Arts and taught subjects of history, theatre and history of European music to the Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degree students. Since 2002, he has been serving as Assoc. Prof. at the faculties of Piano and Pedagogy in the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre – teaching BA and MA students, supervising papers by Master‘s degree and post-graduate art students. In 2006, Assoc. Prof. Gerulis became the Dean of the Kaunas Faculty of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (currently, the Music Academy of Vytautas Magnus University).
Saulius Gerulis is also currently the Chairman of the Council at the Kaunas Juozas Gruodis Conservatory and the secretary of the Music Education Council at the Ministry of Education and Science in the Republic of Lithuania. He was the member of the editorial staff of methodical publications for the Lithuanian branch of the European Piano Teacher Association (EPTA) in 2004, and a reviewer in 2005. He read lectures at qualification courses for teachers in 2006–2008 and served as the chairman of the Commission for the Evaluation of Final Research Papers at the Faculty of Humanities of the Kaunas University of Technology. Gerulis was a member of the Commission for the Evaluation of Annual Research Papers in 2005-2010 and a member of Commission for the Evaluation of Professional Arts in 2009.
Assoc. Prof. Saulius Gerulis is a member of the Board at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, a member and chairman of the organizational Committee of Annual Scientific and Methodical Conferences of the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. He is also a member and chairman of the Evaluation Commission of all yearly final exams of Performing Arts. In addition to this, Gerulis prepares children for participation in international music competitions, organizes music competitions for schoolchildren and university students.
Since 1992, Gerulis has been participating in national and international scientific conferences. He has published 5 articles in prestigious scientific journals and has published a collection of articles “Nuo muzikos link žodžio” (From Music to Word) in 2004, tackling the complex issues of music interpretation and comprehension.
In 2006-2007 and 2009-2010, Assoc. Prof. Gerulis played in the piano class evenings at the concert hall of the Museum of A. and P. Galauniai.
