Prof. Deacon to Discuss Global Social Policy at VMU
On 28 October, 3 p.m., at the VMU Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy (Gedimino g. 44, Room 302), Prof. Bob Deacon from the University of Sheffield (United Kingdom) will hold a public lecture entitled Making Global Social Policy: Foundations and Prospects for a Global Social Floor.
In the lecture, Prof. Deacon will explain how in 2012 not only the International Labour Organization (ILO) but also the United Nations (UN), the World Bank and the G20 came to adopt a new global social policy in favour of a global social protection floor. The value of and the prospects for practical realisation of this policy will also be assessed. The lecture will ask whether the global governance of social protection has changed from a contest between global agencies to co-operation between them.
Bob Deacon is Emeritus Professor of International Social Policy at the University of Sheffield and currently holds the UNESCO-UNU Chair in Regional Integration, Migration and the Free Movement of People at UNUCRIS in Bruges. His most recent books are Global Social Policy in the Making, Global Social Policy and Governance, World Regional Social Policy and Global Governance, Social Policy and International Interventions in South-East Europe and Global Social Policy: International Organisations and the Future of Welfare, the latter two with Paul Stubbs.
