Interdisciplinary Conference at VMU to Analyse World Lithuanianness (Updated 10.11)
The VMU Faculty of Humanities and the Center for Immigration Studies invite the academic community to the scientific conference Conceptualizing an Identity as World Lithuanians: Contemporary Experiences of Migration, which will be held on 20 October at the World Lithuanians Hall, Lithuanian Emigration Institute (2nd floor), Vytautas Magnus University, S. Daukanto g. 25, Kaunas.
Scholars and researchers from various academic fields will participate in the conference, which seeks to develop a layered sociological, political and historical understanding of World Lithuanianness as a model of Lithuanian identity. The conference aims to research and present the idea of World Lithuanianness in the context of contemporary migration processes.
Some of the suggested topics for papers included understanding of World Lithuanianness as a model of Lithuanian identity, identity change among emigrants in the first wave of emigration as the background for understanding World Lithuanians, EURO identity, state migration policies and their influence on the national identity of emigrants, factors that determine the formation of World Lithuanianness, e.g. dual citizenship, the transformation (various transformations) of the Lithuanian identity of contemporary emigrants, the preservation of Lithuanian identity in emigration and a strategy for Global Lithuania.
Speakers whose presentations receive the highest evaluations will be invited to submit full articles for publication in the journal Oikos: Lithuanian Migration and Diaspora Studies.
