On February 14th, Rein Raud, former Tallin University Rector, will be awarded VMU Honorary Doctor's regalia during the celebration of Vytautas Magnus University's 90th anniversary at VMU Aula Magna (Gimnazijos Str. 7). Prof. Rein Raud, Estonian scholar, writer, VMU Council member and professor of Japanese, is very fluent in Lithuanian and agreed to share his thoughts on universities, their reforms, autonomy, and, of course, VMU.

In the second half of March, professor Howard W. Brill from the University of Arkansas visited the VMU Faculty of Law, where he read lectures of Comparative Legal Ethics. In a conversation with the faculty's Vice-Dean Charles Szymansky, the visiting professor discussed topical issues of lawyers' professional ethics. More ›
On February 10, the university’s project VMU: More Than an Occupation invited everyone to AUDIoTeORIJA, a party at the Kaunas nightclub Gargaras (Raudondvario pl. 101). For one weekend in November, the university's annual jazz festival VMU Jazz Connections invited audiences to its fourth run in a row, a three-day marathon of free jazz with world-renowned artists who explore the boundaries of jazz and tirelessly seek new forms of expression. More ›
On November 8–22, Vytautas Magnus University will invite all of its past graduates to the fourth annual Alumni Days. The VMU Alumni will be able to reunite with the faculty and department communities, take part in special events and reminisce about their studies here. On 26 September, Vytautas Magnus University celebrated the European Day of Languages. The VMU Centre of Foreign Languages organized events marking this occasion for the ninth year in a row – there were songs and dances, interesting performances and presentations. Several representatives of the Lithuanian national basketball team came to visit – some of them had just participated in the recently ended Eurobasket 2011. More ›
Like every year, a large crowd of foreign students has come to study at VMU this autumn: no less than 89 students from all over the world will be visiting the university this year. On 19 August, Kaunas greeted a lively bunch of travellers – the participants of the project Ride for Your Rights, who are taking a long trip through Europe by bike, making stops to meet with local politicians and trying to attract attention to student mobility and other issues relevant to European youth. On 21-23 June, VMU held Graduation Ceremonies and awarded diplomas to BA and MA graduates of the faculties of Arts, Catholic Theology, Economics and Management, Humanities, Informatics, Law, Natural Sciences, Political Science and Diplomacy and Social Sciences, as well as the Music Academy. On Friday, 20 May, one of the most highly regarded modern architecture theorists in the world Kazys Varnelis visited VMU where he held a public lecture Network Culture and Space. In his meeting with students, the architecture historian of Lithuanian descent discussed network culture and its implications for the media, culture, politics and architecture. More ›
Environmentalist and the most prominent researcher of orangutans, the VMU Honorary Doctor Prof. Birutė Galdikas read a public lecture Orangutan Rehabilitation Program: 40 Years of Experience (Orangutanų Reabilitacijos Programa: 40-ties Metų Patirtis) at the VMU Kaunas Botanical Garden (Ž. E. Žilibero g. 6) on May 14. After the lecture, oak trees were planted – fulfilling the scientist's dream of planting an oak tree grove in Lithuania as a symbolic counterbalance to worldwide deforestation. More ›
On April 18, a meeting with the new editor of the periodical publication Pasaulio Lietuvis (World Lithuanian), the President of the World Lithuanian Youth Association Kęstas Pikūnas, took place at the VMU Lithuanian Emigration Institute.
