Happy International Students‘ day!
Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis wishes all university students a happy holiday, the International Students’ Day. “The most important university representatives are students: they are the ambassadors of knowledge, improvement and higher education. I am glad that the students of this university are active and not only thirsty for knowledge in the academic world, but also involved in the civic life”, VMU Rector Prof. Juozas Augutis explains.
In celebration of the International Students’ Day, the VMU Student Representative Council is organizing a test of academic knowledge and a conference titled “Apšvietimas 2016” (“Enlightenment 2016”). This initiative, whose motto is “Screw in an academic lightbulb”, hopes to encourage young people to take deeper interest in the education system and academic honesty. “I wish all the best to all university students on their holiday and would like to remind them of the importance of student autonomy in universities, of representing the students’ interests and seeking to improve the quality of studies”, President of VMU Student Representative Council, Eigirdas Sarkanas said.
On this day, VMU students traditionally took over the duties of the university’s rector, three vice-rectors, the administrative director, the deans of all ten faculties, and the heads of other offices: Student Affairs Department, Studies Department, Institute of Foreign Languages, VMU Kaunas Botanical Garden, and International Office.
