Studies at Vytautas Magnus University are organized by 9 faculties (The Faculty of Arts, The Faculty of Catholic Theology, The Faculty of Economics and Management, The Faculty of Humanities, The Faculty of Informatics, The Faculty of Law, The Faculty of Natural Sciences, The Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy, The Faculty of Social Sciences) and 2 academic subdivisions (The Music Academy and Innovative Studies Institute). Together they offer more than 450 Bachelor and Master level as well as non-degree semester long courses, in English and other languages. There are eight Master's degree programmes taught entirely in English. VMU's strategic tasks are actively implemented by university centres, while its offices and subdivisions perform various administrative and service functions as well as economy-related tasks. The university is also has students' autonomous bodies and professional associations, in addition to being the founder of 9 public enterprises.VMU community has also founded numerous academic organizations and clubs of various kinds.

The Senate

The Senate is a collegial body managing academic affairs of the University. The current Senate, consisting of 54 scientists and students, has been elected on October 13, 2010 and will serve for a five year term.

The Council

The Council is a collegial management body and an institution of public observation and care which consists of representatives from the University, Lithuanian science, culture and economic organizations, government and local government. The Council affirms the vision and mission of the University, the strategy offered by the Rector, discusses and approves restructuring plans proposed by the Rector, discusses and approves major decisions related to taking care of support for the university and performs other functions.

The Rector

The Rector is the highest academic official of Vytautas Magnus University. He is elected in a public competition for a five year term and serves no more than two terms in a row. The Rector is elected, assigned and removed from office by the University Council. The Rector's responsibilities include ensuring that university's activities are in accordance with the law, the university statute and other legal acts. He also issues orders, supports employees and students, oversees financial activities of the university, proper handling, use and disposition of its properties, takes care of the level of the higher education, scientific research, cultural activities at the university, etc. On August 28, 2010, the Council has elected prof. Zigmas Lydeka as the Rector for a second term in a row.

The Rector's Council

The Rector’s Council is the Rector's advisory institution, consisting of 21 members: Rector, Vice Rector for Studies, Vice Rector for Research, Vice Rector for Development, Vice Rector for Public Communication, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Schools and Centres, Heads of Offices, President of Student Council and others. The Rector's Council prepares university development perspective plans, discusses issues of studies, research and economy organisation, prepares the university's annual report, pedagogic load norms and other work standards, coordinates and controls the work of faculties and other autonomous bodies, manages university's relations with Lithuanian and foreign institutions of science, studies, business, industry, etc., performs other functions. The Secretariat of the Rectorate helps to organize the Rector's Council's work.
