ADULT EDUCATION FOR EMPLOYABILITY AND CITIZENSHIP
Summary
The article analyses processes influencing economical and social cohesion
of the world seeking to motivate the paradox of globalization issues. Variety
of knowledge conceptions is analized revealing the conceptions of learning
society and justifying multiplicity as being nowadays reality of education
and life long learning processes.

MODELLING THE ACCESSIBILITY OF ADULT LEARNING: SUBJECTIVE AND OBJECTIVE ASPECTS
Summary
Article provides the concept of the accessibility of adult education, discerns
the objective and subjective aspects of the accessibility of adult education,
presents the research of the trends of training/learning accessibility for
the employees in the industry and for the unemployed in Lithuania and refers
to the experience of the EU countries in this field, stressing the importance
of the adult education accessibility to the social and economical development
and, in particular to the enhancement of the employability and competitiveness
of the human resources.

WORK AND LEARNING: THE CHANGING NATURE OF THE WORLD OF WORK AND EDUCATION INTERACTION
Summary
Today formal learning cannot satisfy the goals of labour market that are formulated
by such factors as globalisation, rapid technological development and social
economical changes. Non-formal and informal learning are valued as one of
the timely and major measures in solving such problems as reducing the gap
between theory and practice, increasing the capacity of organisations to rapidly
and efficiently adapt to constant and rapid changes, maintaining the balance
between labour market supply and demand, growth of an individual, self-realisation
and survival in the labour market. Hereby, qualitative non-formal and informal
learning enhance general economical development of the country under extensive
change conditions. The purpose of this article is to analyse the available
literature resources in the field of Social Sciences with regard to the interaction
between the world of work and education, evaluate the current situation in
Lithuania on the basis of the empirical research carried out in public transport
sector of Kaunas city and foresee further developmental tendencies. Having
carried out the analysis of the scientific literature and on the basis of
the empirical research, the following main conclusions are formulated: the
need for the interaction between the world of work and education is dictated
by political and economical factors; the majority of Lithuanian organisations
are not ready for accepting the teaching-learning development challenges;
the success of teaching-learning in the organisation depends on organisational
and individual factors.

Summary
This article aims at highlighting adult education innovations, which are being
implemented in the specific context: Lithuania being in the process of special
and cultural change and the progressive part of the world society developing
the idea of lifelong learning.
The article provides a sequential analysis of major concepts defining the
topic, their contemporary contexts and presents samples of research carried
out in andragogical practical activity.
The article is concluded with presenting an overview of the types of adult
learning innovations and highlighting the importance of andragogical and practical
research to adult education.

CAREER DESIGNING SKILLS IN THE KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY:

The article analyses the phenomenon of career designing as a lifelong process
and its importance in the knowledge society, its structure, career education
and career planning in relation to vocational counselling and career counselling,
reveals the relationship between research on vocational career and counselling
in career designing, discusses major career designing functions and skills
in the knowledge society. Vocational counselling and career counselling purpose
and interrelation in lifelong career designing process are defined.

TENDENCIES OF IDENTIFICATION, ASSESSMENT AND RECOGNITION OF NON-FORMAL AND
INFORMAL LEARNING IN EUROPE AND LITHUANIA
Summary
The article presents a review of the experience of European countries in the
area of identification, assessment and recognition of non-formal and informal
learning. Also, the findings of a pilot research, performed in Lithuanian
enterprises and vocational schools, are presented. The findings indicate the
main tendencies in non-formal and informal learning assessment and recognition.
A model of non-formal and informal learning recognition, based on the Norwegian
experience.

TOWARDS THE LEARNING SOCIETY FOR ALL?
Summary
The article analyses the lifelong learning in radical, economical and strategic
aspects. The changes of globalizing world, increasing migration to OECD countries,
changing labour market ratio, heterogenity and multiculture of cities, increasing
number of elder people, changing family structure are discussed. Various modules
for social supply - liberal welfare, coorporation, conservative, peripheral,
"social-democratic" - and lifelong learning - social partnership,
market based - are examined.

MENTOR ROLE IN THE CHANGING CONTEXT OF VOCATIONAL TEACHER

Summary
The article analyses vocational teacher training change paradigms in Lithuania,
emphasizing the importance of learning in the workplace, discusses the role
of mentor as vocational teacher trainer, analyses mentor training program
and formulates guidelines for its improvement. Scientific literature, document
analysis and survey methods were employed in the research.

EDUCATIONAL STIMULATION FOR CONTINUOUS EDUCATION IN VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
Summary
The purpose of the article is to discuss the factors of educational stimulation
in vocational school taking into account the non-finiteness aspect of vocational
education. To achieve the set purpose peculiarities of an individual adaptation
were analyzed taking into account the problem of learning and participation
motivation, changes in the world work and labor market. Application of the
concept of adaptation to the analysis of vocational education change enhances
the attention to the characteristics of the learning activity, and the expansion
of vocational school. To evaluate an external factors, educational stimulation
approach was chosen in the research. Applying this approach favorable and
stimulating conditions for adaptation skills and mobility development were
reveal.

SOCIAL WORKER COMPETENCE AND LIFELONG LEARNING
Summary
The major constituents of social work as a multidimensional profession are
knowledge, values and skills. Apart from specific social work knowledge, this
profession applies knowledge from other branches of social sciences. This
makes social work multifaceted and complex. The duty of social workers is
to continuously broaden their knowledge, develop new skills and on the grounds
of social work values involve themselves in the lifelong learning process.
One of the possibilities for social work lifelong learning is to attend four
module qualification upgrading courses organised by Social Care Study Centre
at SWI, VMU. The article analysis the experience gained in organising such
courses.

ES SOCRATES/ GRUNDTVIG PROJECTS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF LITHUANIAN ADULT EDUCATION
Summary
The article discusses international European Union Socrates/Grundtvig adult
education projects, project designing methodological foundations, qualitative
and quantitative project aspects. Grundtvig project content is compared to
directions and priorities of Lithuanian education presented in Strategic Guidelines
for the Development of Lithuanian Education in 2003-2012 ("Guidelines").
It has been found out that both "Guidelines" and Grundtvig adult
education projects are based on common values. The priority of social education
policy, enhancement of the processes of education innovation dynamics, search
for new forms of educational expression in the context of lifelong learning
are the main features characteristic to adult education in Lithuania and the
European Union.

CAPACITIES OF LEARNING MODELS IN KNOWLEDGE GENERATING ORGANIZATION: DIMENSION OF SOCIAL INTERACTION
Summary
The article analyses learning in organization as a social system aiming at
acquisition of knowledge necessary for adaptation and sustenance of the organization
in the changing environment. Learning, understood as efforts of separate individuals
or linear information reception, transmission, accumulation and distribution
process, cannot meet organizational needs for valued knowledge. Organizational
capacity to learn and acquire knowledge can be realised through functional
coordination of activity and learning and evaluating its participant social
interaction. The action of a dynamic organizational learning model is based
on achievements in social sciences in this area.

THE SPECIFICITY OF TEACHER FURTHER EDUCATION IN UNIVERSITY STUDIES
Summary
In the process of rapid knowledge society development, lifelong learning becomes
a particularly important precondition for self-expression and self-realisation
for every member of the society. Purposefully organised further education
can facilitate an adult in developing the need for permanent self-education.
The article analyses the area of teacher further education and self-education,
the specificity of pedagogical groups in educology studies at university.
It aims to investigate the attitudinal dispositions towards further university
studies of pedagogical group students who already carry out practical educological
activity. Analysing practical research data, general tendencies of the choice
of educological studies are emphasised, the necessity of study program optimisation
is highlighted.

Complicated changes and needs of social and economical development in Lithuania
impart peculiar significance on the processes of human recourse training taking
place at higher schools in Lithuania. The authors of the article analyse the
main qualitative and quantitative human recourse development tendencies of
changes in Lithuanian higher schools and attempt to raise the main related
problems.

THE PROBLEMS OF THE YOUTH INTEGRATION INTO THE LABOUR MARKET
Summary
Many significant life events that influence further life happen at the young
age in a very short time. One of such significant events in a young person's
life is the first employment.
In Lithuania the problem of the youth integration into the labour market lacks
attention regardless of the present topicality of this problem in our country:
the extent of unemployed youth is far from decreasing, on the contrary, it
is signally increasing year by year and even overrun general extent of unemployment.
This article, on the basis of experience of foreign and lithuanian scientists,
surveys the situation of the youth in the labour market, discusses the main
problems of the integration of young unemployed people into the labour market,
and proposes the system of means for the youth integration into the labour
market.

REALIAS AND PERSPECTIVES OF DISTANCE LEARNING: IN THE EYES OF PROSPECTIVE USERS
Summary
Over the last decade the number of higher education providers has grown markedly
both in Lithuania and in its neighbouring countries. Provision of education
has become more varied both in content and in form. Some providers keep traditional
approach to teaching and learning, others demonstarte modern approach e.g.
provide distance learning services.
Though in Lithuania computer and distance education networks are in place,
prospective distance education users are not sufficiently informed about them
and are not prepared to transfer acquired foreign language and informatics
skills to enter modern learning.
The article reviews national documents and gives characteristics of prospective
distance learning user. It also presents the results of prospective users'
opinion survey with particular focus on distance learning realias and perpspectives
through the eyes of prospective users.
