PREFACE

This issue of the journal is much more different in its content from the previous issues which were devoted to a certain topic of vocational education and training. The concept of this issue is different - the majority of the articles were written by university doctoral students, alone or together with their scientific supervisors. Thus, it is an experimental issue which spreads the ideas of the young generation scientists and allows to mark more modern insights into the analysis of educational (vocational education and training) practice.

Though the topics of the journal articles are rather diverse, they do not go beyond the research area of vocational education and training as a phenomenon. On the other hand, the articles can be divided into the articles on traditional topics and modern topics that have become relevant during the last decades. Such articles as "Influence of Social Events upon Person's Socialisation", two articles written by German scholars on work training and cooperative teaching in vocational schools as well as the articles that present the results of employee qualification research and qualification development issues can be contributed to traditional topic articles. The modern side of the issue is represented by three groups of articles: group one is relevant to the career counselling problem that has become urgent recently (in the context of lifelong learning) and broadly explored; group two is relevant to the recognition of non-formal and informal learning achievements; group three is related to the assessment of vocational education and training policy in Lithuania and the European Union.

In the second part of the journal the major outcomes of the international Leonardo da Vinci programme project "Meeting the Needs of Employment: European Curriculum Guidelines for Lifelong Vocational Counsellor in the line with the Challenges of EU Enlargement (LT/02/B/P/PP-137003)" are presented. It has become a tradition to acquaint the readers with the relevant political documents that determine the solutions to problematic phenomena. This time two outcomes are proposed: Professional Standard of Career Counsellor and Career Counsellor Education Programme (main modules). A particular interest among theoreticians and practitioners is expected to be triggered off by the standard as its appearance can be related to the creation of theoretical assumptions for the launching of vocational and career counsellor programme. The presented programme is not exhaustive, i.e. only 6 modules are presented. However, they indicate the current work carried out at the outset of career counsellor education and training programme preparation on the basis of the standard.

It is worth mentioning one more time that the journal is meant not only the Lithuanian reader. The translation of the whole journal into the English and German languages opens a much broader context for a scientific discussion, extends the scope of readers and enhances international recognition of the journal. This fact makes it possible to expect that the journal will be included into the international database in the nearest future. Therefore, I am inviting all the representatives and scholars from other countries to write to the Editorial Board of the journal. Articles by vocational education and training researchers from the new EU countries are particularly appreciated.
