This issue of the journal is exceptional in its unique topicality.
Vocational guidance as a scientific problem is neither new nor more important
than other problems. Yet, recently it has emerged in a new context when vocational
guidance, recognized for a long time, is perceived in the continuous and long-lasting
human interaction with the world of work and professions and helps to find the
solution to a new phenomenon - career designing.
The scientific discussion with regard to vocational guidance is not self-purposeful.
Its practical aspect is nonetheless important and requires broad adequate political
decisions made both in global (for instance, in Europe) and local (in separate
countries) context. It has been noted that the practice of vocational guidance
is more problematic than the vocational education and training itself or organization
of lifelong learning.
Lack of fundamental vocational guidance research makes the articles presented
in the journal beneficial not only for further scientific discussion but for
more precise perception of the phenomenon which, unfortunately, lacks clarification
and agreement. A more attentive reader will realise that the treating of the
same issues depends on both, the angle of the point of view and on a concrete
scientific school that one or another author represents.
The journal consists of several types of articles. A valuable theoretical historical
review of the problem (Beresnevičienė, Kučinskienė,
Petkevičiūtė) that allows for deeper understanding of the
phenomenon. Significant presentation of concrete forms and methods in vocational
guidance and career education (Garnienė, Pukelis, Jovaiša, Orenienė).
Important content about vocational guidance in separate European regions (Launikari,
Plant, Gligorjevic, Sutana, Zelloth). Interesting results of the research into
various vocational guidance parameters (Juraitė, Laužackas, Pukelis,
Reingardienė, Zdanavičius, Valackienė, Lileikienė).
This issue of the journal was supported by European Union Leonardo da Vinci
Programme Co-ordination Support Foundation and Lithuanian Ministry of Education
and Science. It is an example of useful cooperation in pursuit of solving theoretical,
political and practical problems in vocational education and training, highlighting
mutual significance of the contribution. Editorial board of the journal extends
their gratitude to the partners.
