The idea that Europe has moved into the Knowledge Age has become familiar to all. The phenomenon of the Knowledge Age is a challenge to economic, social and cultural life of the society, it is a challenge to the implementation of lifelong learning.
Thus, the present volume of the journal “Vocational Education: Research and Reality” is issued at a decisive moment: science and practice are in intensive search for solutions to the objectives of global social economical and technological changes. As never before, vocational education and training is looked up to with great expectations – for its utmost responsibility for increasing opportunities of employability and employment, priority to implementing lifelong learning.
Vocational education and training reform in Lithuania started a little earlier than ten years ago. In present day life it is a long period of time. The conference “VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING CHANGE IN LITHUANIA AND CHALLENGES OF EUROPEAN INTEGRATION” is organised to commemorate this anniversary. It is also a possibility to discuss theoretical and practical aspects of vocational education and training reform, as well as to lay major landmarks of its developmental strategy in the Knowledge Age. Therefore, the content of the journal is honoured to become a witness of this historic event.
As always, the content of the journal is twofold. However, the material of “research” and “reality” comprises a coherent whole, not separate parts, whereas the consistency of the content corresponds to the sequence of conference presentations.
Thus, the journal content integrates the findings of scientific research with practical and political approaches. It is a significant and perspective integration, as a way to solve the problem of fostering lifelong learning vision. Moreover, the content consists of the key vocational education and training reform aspects: strategies and political problems, European dimension and possibilities for its realisation in Lithuania, change in labour market demands for vocational education and training, increasing the impact of employer and social partnership upon vocational education and training, training the unemployed, development of vocational curriculum and quality assurance, problems of vocational agricultural training and dissemination of international projects, etc.
As usual, the content of the journal is devoted not only for Lithuanian reader. Full translation of the content to the English language invites for a broader international discussion. Editorial board hopes for responses and scientific publications from various countries. A journal is a way to communicate, cognize and develop to ensure the fullest educational impact on the development of possibilities for individual and society.
