Social events of ESA 2008
You have just clicked on "Social events" that means that you are interested in social activities of the Academy, aren‘t you?
European Summer Academy will offer you a number of different activities each evening but before the introduction of entertaining social events we would like you to get to know Kaunas and Lithuania. We do hope that you know which of the nouns stands for the city which you are going to visit and which for the country. Additional information about them may be found by browsing the web or visiting Vytautas Magnus University’s online project StudyKaunas.eu. There you will find general information about the city, the country and the university.
When you are really sure that you know some general information about Kaunas and Lithuania, we may start introducing what have been already planned for you to be entertained, to learn, to understand and experience more.
We all will firstly meet at the Welcome Reception at the Institute of Political Science and Diplomacy at Vytautas Magnus University (Gedimino St. 44, 2nd Floor, Kaunas) (June 26). This is meant to be a little get-together-dinner and the first introduction to the University you will spend most of time during the Academy.
You may be sure that we will present you with the beauty of the nature, the uniqueness of the landscape and the oneness of the nation as the Academy will be opened in a countryside village "Miskiniskes" (June 27). There you will have an opportunity to take part in a Movie Night (June 27), where a selected collection of Lithuanian films & documentaries that have earned praise from audience and film critics will be demonstrated. Another option to have a rest after a long day of the team-building session will be a chance to experience the art of Lithuania sauna. Do not forget to bring your swim-suits and towels with you!
The next impressive social event – a guided tour in Kaunas (June 29). During the tour we will together explore the centre of the city & the Old Town. We guarantee that it will not be one of those deadly boring excursions, you will not hear thousand and one date and two hundred surnames, we promise that you will not have time to yawn. During the excursion you will get to know interesting places, surprising details and things that even not all locals know about the city.
However, we will not limit ourselves to exploring Kaunas as the capital of the country Vilnius (July 1) has not less interesting and worth to be visited places. Just be sure to take photo camera with you!
The bowling lovers will enjoy another event of the social programme – the Bowling Night (July 2). We hope it will be a great relaxation after the busy day of browsing the Net, filming, interviewing & making online reports.
All good things must come to an end, but tonight is all about celebrating the time we’ve shared together! The European Summer Academy Publicizing Event & Farewell Party (July 3) will give you the chance to present your journalistic pieces, reflect back on the Academy and enjoy the performance of the unique modern art project. This social event may make you feel embarrassed. Not all feel comfortable when they notice that they are sitting with the mouth opened (human beings sometimes do so when they are really surprised). That is an expected reaction when you will watch the Psilicone Theatre. According to the founder of the theatre Aukse Petruliene, ‘Psilicone theatre is using artistic silicone implants to make plastic corrections of wrinkles of sadness on the face of the Lithuanian nation’.
